Addressing the Issue of Bad Manners
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,
Today, I want to address a topic with utmost importance in our Deen as muslims:
our manners, character and conduct. Around the globe, we can see the advent of the culture of ''acceptance'' where we can see people are more tolerant of things which are unacceptable a few years ago; making fun of others are just seen as comedy, gossips and slanders are just spicing things up with friends, indecency and straight up pornography are just freedom of expression. Astaghfirullah, we seek refuge from Allah from all this Fahisha . My fellow brothers and sisters in Islam, I must remind you to not take this issue lightly. Islam places great emphasis on good manners, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the embodiment of excellent character.
As followers of his noble example, it's essential for us to reflect on our daily behaviour and strive to improve our mannerism.
Warning by Allah- Al-Mutaffifin
In the name of Allah,The Most Compassionate,The Most Merciful
1. Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)],
2. Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure,
3. And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due.
4. Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning),
5. On a Great Day,
6. The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?
7. Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin.
8. And what will make you know what Sijjin is?
9. A Register inscribed.
10. Woe, that Day, to those who deny [(Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)].
11. Those who deny the Day of Recompense.
12. And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!)
13. When Our Verses (of the Qur'an) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!"
14. Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn.
15. Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.
16. Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell.
17. Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!"
18. Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun.
19. And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is?
20. A Register inscribed.
21. To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels).
22. Verily, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise).
23. On thrones, looking (at all things).
24. You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight.
25. They will be given to drink pure sealed wine.
26. The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah).
27. It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim.
28. A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah.
29. Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
30. And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery);
31. And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting;
32. And when they saw them, they said: "Verily! These have indeed gone astray!"
33. But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers).
34. But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers
35. On (high) thrones, looking (at all things).
36. Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do?

A Warning Against Unjust Dealings
In the opening verses of Surah Al-Mutaffifin, Allah condemns those who give less than what is due – be it in measurement, weight, or quantity. This is a warning against unfair business practices, dishonesty, and a lack of integrity. Such behaviors not only harm individuals but also erode the trust within a society. The Focus in Intentions
The Surah then draws our attention to the intentions behind these actions. It emphasizes that on the Day of Judgment, our deeds will be presented before us. The smallest of actions will be accounted for, not only in terms of the action itself but also the intent and the attitude behind it. This underscores that bad manners and dishonesty are not merely external acts; they are reflective of a corrupted heart.
The Devaluation of the Hereafter
Allah criticizes those who prefer the fleeting pleasures of this world over the everlasting rewards of the Hereafter. Bad manners often arise from a short-sighted perspective that prioritizes material gains over ethical behavior. This shift in focus devalues the essence of faith and the significance of the life to come.
The Severity of the Consequences
The Surah concludes with a vivid depiction of the Day of Judgment. It paints a picture of individuals who have neglected their manners and ethics, facing dire consequences. Their deeds are weighed, and their choices are presented before them. The gravity of their actions dawns upon them when it is too late.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, dear brothers and sisters, our manners are a crucial aspect of our faith. They define our character and influence our relationships with others. Let's strive to emulate the manners of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and uphold the teachings of Islam by treating others with kindness, patience, and respect. By doing so, we not only enhance our own lives but contribute positively to the communities around us.May Allah help us in improving our manners and purifying our hearts. Ameen.
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.
